Profiles of Honor Terms and Conditions: Permission to Display Online

The Profiles of Honor Project is a joint project of the Library of Virginia and the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission. I understand that the purpose of this project is to display digital reproductions of items on the official Virginia World War I and II websites for use by researchers. The Library of Virginia, in cooperation with the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission, may digitize my item(s) so that they can be accessed by the public through the Library of Virginia’s online digital platform, Virginia Memory, or by other methods. The publication of any of these images will have a credit line naming the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission as the source of the photograph.

If I am bringing my photographs/documents to be scanned, as the owner of the material being submitted, I recognize that the digitization process will be performed by properly-trained professionals. I also recognize that the photographs/documents so presented by me for digitization are aged and fragile and may be damaged in some form or fashion regardless of the care taken by the Library of Virginia or Commission representatives.  I hereby waive any action for damages that may occur during or following the digitization process against the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission or its agents, the Library of Virginia or its agents, or the Commonwealth of Virginia.  This waiver also specifically includes any action that may accrue to the benefit of the owner of the material pursuant to the Virginia Tort Claims Act (§§ 8.01-195.1 et seq. of the Code of Virginia).

The items submitted into our online database hereby offered free and clear for digitization, and with no restrictions, to the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission for the purpose of public access through the official state websites. Said items can and may be digitized, photographed, microfilmed, photocopied, or otherwise reproduced by the Library of Virginia and Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission for future researchers in accordance with established policies and procedures.
