VIRGINIA BEACH - Veterans, families and community members gathered to remember the sacrifices of the past on Nov. 4 at Renaissance Academy. The early Veterans Day Tribute was hosted by the Virginia Beach History Museums, and sponsored in part by the Princess Anne County Training School-Union Kempsville High School Alumni Association. BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Every year on June 6th World War Two Veteran Ash Rothlein pays homage to homage, a statue at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford. An instrumental factor in its creation, Rothlein comes to place his French Legion Medal of Honor on the statue. On Monday he came to the memorial for a different reason. FORT PICKETT, Va. — For many Virginia National Guard units, 2017 marks their 100th anniversary. Units like the Fort Belvoir-based 29th Infantry Division and the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Regiment both formed as the United States prepared to enter World War I in 1917.
